2012 TACS Research Grants

Tiles and Architectural Ceramics Society Research Grants 2012

Application deadlines: 15 June 2012 and 15 December 2012

In order to support historical research in the field of British-made decorative tiles and architectural ceramics, the Tiles and Architectural Ceramics Society (TACS) is offering grants of up to £1,000 to suitable applicants. Please note that specific conservation projects (of objects or buildings) are not eligible unless a significant research element is included.

TACS Research Grants are offered to assist with travel, subsistence and other research costs. They may be used to visit collections, libraries, archives or historic sites in the UK or abroad, in connection with research into British-made decorative tiles and architectural ceramics. They are not offered to assist with conference attendance. They are offered to students and researchers already engaged in study or research concerned with or related to the history of tiles and architectural ceramics. Projects offering matching funding to the TACS Research Grant will be looked upon with favour.

Please submit your application by email in English as a Word document and send it to research@tilesoc.org.uk. One reference is also required, which must be no longer than a single page and must be submitted by your referee directly by email to research@tilesoc.org.uk by the relevant closing date.

Your application should comprise three to four pages ONLY:

1) One page giving your title, first name and surname, your address for correspondence, your institution (if applicable), your telephone number and your email address. It should also give the name of your proposed project, the amount requested, the name of your referee, and their address, telephone number and email address.

2) One page comprising a brief CV and publications list.

3) One to two pages giving an outline of your proposed research project and its timetable, the amount requested (up to £1,000), and a detailed breakdown of your estimated costs. Also give details of any other sources of financial support, and whether or not they are confirmed.

No additional information of any kind should be submitted with your application.

Please ensure your referee submits their reference by the closing date. Candidates will receive an acknowledgement within ten days of the application’s receipt and will be notified of the grant award decision by 31 July (for the 15 June deadline) or 31 January (for the 15 December deadline). Please note that TACS is unable to enter into any discussion of its decisions regarding Research Grants.
